Why can't I use most CFL light bulbs in sockets with dimmer switches?
We have many light fixtures in our home and business that have dimmer switches on them. We are trying to save energy by installing CFL lamps but most of the bulbs say not for use with dimmer sockets.
Is this because there is some hazard with using them that way or does it mean that they won't work or that the dimming feature will not function?

they wont work right. they will come on when you have the dimmer set as full brightness, but it will severely lessen the life expectancy of the CFL. they do make dimmer rated CFLs now, so if you are going to put one in a dimmer controlled light anyway, get one that is dimmer rated. it will say it right on the box
