is it possible to fix a portable hard drive?
I got a samsung 120 GB portable hard drive for christmas. a few monthes ago when i was on my computer, I moved my foot and it hooked the usb cord and made the hard drive go flying off the computer desk and crashing to the hard tile floor. Funny thing is this happened twice. the first time i picked it up and it was still working but then i did it again(not on purpose), and thats when it bit the dust. when i shake it around it doesn't sound like there are any broken parts, maybe something is just loose. so, does anyone think that i could bring it to some computer tech person and get it fixed? if so, would the information be retained on it?
Yes, the info on the actual disks is intact, the only question is how complex it will be to get them spinning again to enable you to retrieve the data... This will determine the cost factor. In that regard, the importance/replacability of the data will influence the cost/benefit analysis of whether it is worthwhile to try to get the data off the old drive.
