Which is the faster/better laptop: Toshiba or Dell? or Acer?

Definitely the dell in this case, the Core 2 Duo micro-architecture is superior to the one used in AMD Athlon and Turion processors. You may also consider upgrading the Dell to 4GB of memory to make use of Dual Channel bandwidth (ganged vs. unganged mode) and using a 64-bit version of Windows Vista.
The Acer is definitely the SLOWEST of all three computers you listed, and I would heavily advise that you avoid any answers that claim otherwise. It is a TERRIBLE deal for the price and will perform like garbage in all but the must mediocre tasks.
