Do I have the ability to make into medical school?
I finished undergrad about 2 years ago, and only graduated with a 3.0. I will admit, I graduate with a bachelor of science and the reason for the lower GPA was I did struggle in physics and general chemistry back when I was 19. (That was 6 years ago). I began graduate school for a masters in psychology for which I currently hold a 4.0. I am much more determined, I have no distractions and I know what i want with life.
My dilemma... I would really like to get an MD in psychiatry following my masters. Ultimately I would prefer this over a PhD. I would not take the MCAT for another year. I feel confident that I could review enough chemistry and biology to do well on this test.
I am just nervous that my undergraduate grades are going to hurt me.
Do I have a chance to get into medical school?
Getting a masters and having a higher GPA in your masters degree will definitely help. Load up on the other requirements, though...ECs, research, shadowing, etc, etc...
You should get a high score on the MCAT no matter what your GPA is. That's always a requirement.
